Preserve Your Muscles and Health During Weight Loss

I don’t like the gym!!!

I look for excuses to skip it. Sometimes laziness gets the better of me, but I still push myself to act. Why? Because I know that protecting my muscles and health is essential during weight loss.

Every workout is a mental challenge for me, but the satisfaction I feel afterward is priceless.
When friends notice the changes and compliment my effort, it gives me extra motivation to keep going.


Why Do We Lose Muscles During Weight Loss?

During weight loss, the body often burns not only fat but also muscle.
This happens especially when following drastic diets or lacking sufficient protein intake. In such cases, the body draws energy from muscles, which can lead to their breakdown. This phenomenon, known as catabolism, not only weakens the body but also slows metabolism, making further weight loss more difficult.


The Role of the Gym and Other Activities

Even though I’m not a fan of the gym, I understand how important strength training is for preserving muscles. Regular weight training helps maintain muscle mass and can even build it. Of course, not everyone needs to become a bodybuilder – I’m not striving to look like Hugh Jackman, but I admire his determination and balance between working on his physique and everyday life.

If the gym isn’t for you, alternatives include bodyweight exercises, yoga, or functional training.
Swimming and Nordic walking, while excellent for health and fitness, are better as supplements rather than the foundation for building muscle mass.


Supplementation – Support with Responsibility

In the process of weight loss and muscle building, supplementation can be beneficial. Whey protein provides the body with essential amino acids that support muscle recovery and growth.
Creatine improves performance during strength training, while omega-3 aids recovery and has anti-inflammatory properties.

However, remember that supplements are a responsible choice.
If you have chronic or autoimmune conditions, always consult a doctor before using them.
Weight loss might also require adjustments to medication doses, often lowering them, which should also be discussed with a specialist.


Motivation and Persistence

It’s okay to admit that sometimes we lack strength or motivation. Everyone has their off days.
The key is to take on the challenge and not give up despite the difficulties.

Every effort, no matter how small, brings us closer to a healthier and happier life.
